Windsor Preview: Sweet on the chance of Candy’s Cosette

Windsor stage a competitive seven-race card for their first evening meeting of the new flat season, and Cosette looks decent value in the 1m 4f handicap (18:55) now returned to the scene of her last success.
The Henry Candy trained filly scored in good style on her seasonal reappearance last year over course and distance when staying on strongly to beat Yeah Baby by four lengths.
Cosette went on to post a series of solid efforts to make the frame on four occasions, including when runner-up to William Of Orange at Haydock off a mark of 77.
Although now 1lb higher in the weights, Cosette clearly handles the track well and it could well be that first time up is the time to catch her.
Candy also has a decent strike rate with his runners at the venue, and they are rarely found wanting through lack of fitness.
In the 6f handicap (18:25), Don’t Have It Then can defy a career-high mark to land the spoils.
This Willie Musson trained gelding developed into a useful sort last year, winning four times and showing progressive form on each occasion.
The four-year-old showed a terrific turn of foot to come from off the pace at Kempton to beat Invincible Ridge by a nose on his penultimate start, and ran really well last time out at Lingfield when a close up third after a 120-day break.
That run should have put Don’t Have It Then spot on for this, and the son of Myboycharlie could well have more to offer now returned to the turf.
Jay Bee Blue has been given a big chance by the assessor and, with James Doyle in the saddle, can take advantage score an overdue success in the 6f handicap that closes proceedings (19:55).
The gelding has not scored since landing a handicap at Wolverhampton back in November 2013, but that success came off a mark of 77 and Jay Bee Blue now runs off just 62.
That is the same as when partnered to victory by Doyle over course and distance in June of the same year, and gives the six-year-old major claims at the weights now fitted with the cheekpieces for the first time.
