Will Mo Salah retain the Premier League Golden Boot?

Rundown of the latest top goalscorer odds

There’s almost nothing to choose between Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, and the race for the Golden Boot is just as tight.

Mohamed Salah currently leads the way with 21 goals, but Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all hot on his heels.

Will the Egyptian come out on top for the second year running? We’ve taken a look at the contender’s chances…

Mohamed Salah – 21 goals (5/4)

It had seemed like Salah had gone off the boil when he endured an eight-game goalless run during February and March, but he’s now got five goals in his last six games in all competitions.

The former Roma winger is a goal ahead of his closest challengers, and he’ll be looking to add to his tally against Newcastle United and Wolves in the Reds’ last two league outings.

Salah has scored in both of his previous two appearances against the Magpies. He got the opener in the reverse fixture against Wolves too.

Sergio Aguero – 20 goals (2/1)

It’s surprising that Sergio Aguero has only won the Golden Boot once before, but he’s got a great chance to get his hands on the trophy again this term.

Manchester City’s all-time top scorer got the crucial winner against Burnley last week, with games against Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion left to play.

City’s star striker got four when Leicester visited the Etihad last year and he’s scored in both of his league appearances against the Seagulls.

Sadio Mane – 20 goals (4/1)

Mane’s having the best goalscoring season of his career, with 24 in all competitions so far. When Salah went through his drought, the 27-year-old stepped up to supply the goals for Liverpool.

The Senegal international is dangerous with both feet and great at finding space, which means he can’t be counted out in the Golden Boot race.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 19 goals (14/1)

Aubameyang - Arsenal

Arsenal’s record signing has only played the full 90 minutes in 18 of the club’s 36 top-flight matches this term, which makes his goalscoring exploits all the more impressive.

He tends to be on the fringes of games, but he’s got an incredible nose for goal. The former Borussia Dortmund man constantly pops up in the right place at the right time to score.

If Arsenal are going to secure a top-four spot at 11/5, they’ll need a big performance from him against Brighton and Burnley in their final two league fixtures.
