Will Andy Murray make it to Wimbledon?

Murray fighting for his Wimbledon place

We waved goodbye to the clay-court season and watched Rafael Nadal claim an eleventh Roland Garros title last week.

But attention now switches to Wimbledon and the Coral News Team examine if Andy Murray will make his long-awaited return.

The grass-court major begins in three weeks’ time but will the 31-year-old be ready to return?

The former world number-one hasn’t played a competitive match since his quarter-final defeat to Sam Querrey at the All England Club in 2017.

Since then, Murray has pulled out of every major including the French Open earlier this month.

He’s been suffering with a recurring hip problem that has hampered his season. The Scot admitted his recovery has ‘been very slow’ after being out for close to a year.

Nonetheless, the former US Open champ is adamant that it’s the grass-court season he’s been targeting.

The Scot said he was ‘getting closer to playing again’ and has his sights set on the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s Club

However his is now back in full-training and is beginning to edge towards match-sharpness.

The three-time Queens winner will be hoping to get some much-needed game time before next month’s showpiece.

Murray always goes into the tournament as one of the favourites.

The two-time Wimbledon champion has served up some great performances in the past. And will want to be 100% before returning to the lawns of the historic All England Club.

Compatriot Kyle Edmund has really come to the fore in his absence.

The Davis Cup champion had a storming run in the Australian Open in January.

He’s 18th in the world rankings following an impressive year. The 23-year-old will also be looking to go deep into the second week of the competition.

Regardless of Edmund’s exploits though, it’s Murray who draws the biggest crowd at SW19.

He hasn’t always been a fan favourite but Wimbledon without Andy Murray wouldn’t seem quite right.
