Who’s your daddy? Coral’s famous football children XI

In light of John Terry’s daughter Summer scoring on her debut for Chelsea Under-9s, Coral’s football experts got thinking about famous footballers whose children have played professionally.

We’ve come up with an awesome all-star XI comprised of players past and present that have followed in their father’s footsteps. So, who made it into our second generation side?

Goalkeeper: Kasper Schmeichel
Current Leicester City stopper Kasper is the son of Manchester United legend Peter. Unlike his father, though, Schmeichel junior played for one of the Red Devils’ bitter rivals Leeds United. The two generations finished and began their respective senior careers across Carrington at Manchester City.

Right back: Alex Bruce
Hull City defender Alex is the son of another United legend Steve. His father has signed him twice, first for Birmingham City and again for the Tigers. Bruce junior has the rare distinction of having representing both Northern Ireland and the Republic in international friendlies.

Centre back: Manuel Sanchis
Captaining Real Madrid for eight years and winning four European trophies, as well as 11 major domestic honours in Spain makes sweeper Sanchis junior something of a Bernabeu big shot. His father was also named Manuel, but this is one clear instance where the son surpassed his maker.

Centre back: Paolo Maldini
Speaking of surpassing your father and being managed by him, AC Milan icon Paolo was coached by dad Cesare when the latter was Italy boss between 1996 and 1998, and again when he was caretaker of the Rossoneri in 2001. Maldini junior is widely considered to be the best defender of modern times, winning 13 major honours, which include five Champions League titles.

Left back: Daley Blind
Man Utd summer signing Blind also got instructions from his dad Danny throughout current Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal’s stint in charge of the Netherlands, which included the recent World Cup in Brazil. Daley has four Eredivisie titles from his time at Ajax, but his father can boast five, plus four KNVB Cups and the Champions League and UEFA Cup crowns.

Right wing: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Arsenal attacker Oxlade-Chamberlain is the son of ex-England winger Mark Chamberlain. Both generations have occupied wide berths, and played in memorable away wins for the Three Lions against Brazil. Alex is preparing for the Gunners hosting Anderlecht in Champions League action, and is a 7/2 chance to net anytime against them.

Central midfield: Jamie Redknapp
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp once captained Liverpool and is the son of current QPR boss Harry, who managed him at the end of his career at Southampton. Our all-star midfield contains another name in the Redknapp’s extended family.

Central midfield: Frank Lampard
Manchester City loanee Lampard is the cousin of Jamie Redknapp, and nephew of Harry, but also the son of Frank Lampard senior. While his dad was a left back, Lampard junior has been a midfield mainstay of the Premier League for over 15 years now.

Left wing: Tom Ince
Nottingham Forest’s latest loan acquisition Tom is the son of ex-England midfield destroyer Paul. Ince senior managed his son at Blackpool just last season. Tom could’ve followed in his father’s footsteps by joining Inter Milan, but instead opted for Hull. Interesting choice…

Support striker: Eidur Gudjohnsen
Former Chelsea and Iceland attacker Eidur replaced his father Arnor on his international debut. Gudjohnsen junior won league titles in England, the Netherlands and Spain.

Centre forward: Nigel Clough
Perhaps the man with the most famous father we’ve saved until last. Current Sheffield United boss Nigel was the son of legendary manager Brian, who steered Nottingham Forest to successive European Cups. Father and son worked together at the City Ground and the pair were both bosses of Derby County.
