All the trophy winners in the major European leagues
The Champions League final brings down the curtain on the top-level club season in Europe this weekend.
It’s been a great season across the continent and the Coral News Team have rounded up the winners of the major domestic competitions.
England
Premier League: Manchester City – From a statistical perspective, Pep Guardiola’s side may have enjoyed the best league campaign in English football history. They set a new points record (100), a new goals record (106) and finished 19 points ahead of Manchester United in second.
FA Cup: Chelsea – The Blues lifted the FA Cup in what could be Antonio Conte’s final match in charge. They beat Man United 1-0 in a cagey final at Wembley to end the season with silverware.
Carabao Cup: Man City – City comfortably beat Arsenal 3-0 back in February to win the first trophy of the Guardiola era.
Spain
La Liga: Barcelona finished 14 points clear at the top of the table. They were on track to go the entire campaign unbeaten before they fell to a shock 5-4 defeat away to Levante last month.
Copa del Rey: Ernesto Valverde led Barcelona to the domestic double in this first season at Camp Nou. The Catalan club have now won the competition for four consecutive years.
Italy
Serie A: Napoli finished the season on 91 points and still weren’t able to stop Juventus from winning a seventh straight title. Maurizio Sarri is reportedly considering leaving Napoli, which would make it hard to see beyond Juventus again next term.
Coppa Italia: Juventus have dominated the cup in Italy too in recent years. Their 4-0 thrashing of AC Milan in Rome secured the trophy for the fourth year running.
Germany
Bundesliga: No surprises here. After a disappointing start to the season, Bayern Munich replaced Carlo Ancelotti with Jupp Heynckes and cruised to the title. They finished 21 points ahead of Schalke in second.
DFB-Pokal: The German cup wasn’t anywhere near as predictable. Eintracht Frankfurt took a surprise lead against Bayern in last Saturday’s final, only for Robert Lewandowski to cancel it out.
However, Eintracht struck twice more to seal a stunning 3-1 win. It was particularly memorable for Niko Kovac, who guided his side to victory in his final game against his next club.
France
Ligue 1: Paris Saint-German ran out comfortable winners in France’s top tier, regaining the title from Monaco.
Coupe de France: PSG also won the top domestic cup, beating fourth-tier side Les Gerbiers VF to secure the trophy.
Coupe de la Ligue: Another PSG triumph here as Unai Emery lead the club to the domestic treble in his second and last season in Paris.
