Fury’s comeback has begun

Tyson Fury will make his long-awaited return to the ring on Saturday 9^th June, when the Gypsy King will take on Sefer Seferi at the Manchester Arena.

There was much speculation over who Fury would fight, as he plots a comeback that could see him eventually fight Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua in the not-so distant future.

But who actually is Sefer Seferi?

A 39-year-old Albanian, Seferi will be making the step up from cruiserweight.

Like Fury, Seferi is from a boxing family. His older brother Nuri is also a professional boxer, fighting Herbie Hide back in 2008.

The younger sibling boasts a proud 23-1 record. And with 21 of those coming via KO, it’s clear he knows his way around a ring. However, the quality of his opponents has been debated.

It won’t be the first time he steps up to the heavyweight division. But his sole defeat was to current WBA (Regular) heavyweight champ Manuel Charr in 2016.

Charr, who has been booked to meet both Fury and David Haye in the past, although neither bout ever managed to occur – won via unanimous decision in Stuttgart to retain his belt.

So Seferi’s single bout at heavyweight didn’t go well, and while his cruiserweight record is good, it is lacking in quality.

And then there’s the physical aspect.  At 6ft 2in, Seferi will be giving away a full seven inches in height to the Gypsy King.

Fury may be rusty having not fought since his famous win over Wladimir Klitschko in November 2016, but it’s easy to see why he’s chalked up at 1/250 to beat Seferi.

There’s 33/1 about a draw, with the Albanian underdog 18/1 to cause a major surprise in Manchester.
