Which major sports events are still to come in 2018?

There’s plenty still to come this year

The World Cup may be over, but never fear because there’s still plenty to enjoy in 2018.

And the Coral News Team are on hand to provide all the key events and dates right here.

Football

First and foremost, there’s a brand new football season to get stuck into.

The Premier League gets underway on 10^th August, one week after the Football League and Non-League.

La Liga and Serie A are set to start on the weekend of August 19^th. The Champions League group stages get underway on 18^th September, with the Europa League groups kicking off two days later.

The international focus will be on the first running of the UEFA Nations League, which begins on 6^th September. Further matches take place in mid-October and mid-November.

Tennis

With Wimbledon something of a halfway post in the Tennis season, it means there’s plenty more net-battling action to come.

There are four ATP 1000 Masters events on the way, either side of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.  It all concludes with the ATP Finals in London in mid-November, before the Davis Cup Final a week later.

The Women’s Tour follows is similarly hectic, arguably more so. Their finale ends with the WTA Finals in Singapore in October, the WTA Elite Trophy in China a week later, and the Fed Cup Final in early November.

Rugby Union

With a World Cup on the horizon next year, 2018 is a huge season for international rugby union. And November’s Autumn internationals take on even more importance.

England play New Zealand, Japan and Australia. Ireland take on Argentina, New Zealand and the United States, while Wales meet Australia, Tonga and South Africa, and Scotland face Fiji, South Africa and Argentina.

Cricket

The world of cricket is also gearing up for a World Cup in 2019, which is perhaps putting the Test scene on the back seat for now.

England will be spending the rest of the summer taking on India in a fascinating Five-Test clash.

The domestic action continues, with the county championship running until early September, with the T20 Blast Finals on the 15^th of the month.

Golf

There is still so much to look forward to this year if you’re a Golf fan.

There’s the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship in August, plus the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, British Masters and WGC-HSBC Champions in October.

But in between is the small matter of the 2019 Ryder Cup. It’s to be held in France for the first time. The USA are reigning champions, but haven’t won in Europe since 1993.

Racing

In some ways the racing year has barely begun.

Between now and 2019 there’s still Glorious Goodwood, the Ebor, Doncaster’s St Leger, the Ayr Gold Cup, British Champions Day and Cheltenham’s November meeting.

And don’t forget the post-Christmas festivities with the King George VI on Boxing Day and the Welsh National at Chepstow.

Formula One

The 2018 Formula One season will rumble on for a while yet. The final race takes place in Abu Dhabi on the 25^th November.

Highlights along the way include the Belgian Grand Prix on 26^th August, and the Singapore night race on 16^th September.

Judging by the season so far, this year’s title fight between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel could go to the wire.

Darts

Plenty more tungsten will be thrown before 2018 is over.  The PDC Tour goes Down Under in August, to Auckland, Melbourne and Brisbane, before turning home for September’s Champions League of Darts in Brighton.

The World Grand Prix takes us into October, with the European Championship rounding out the month.

November is a biggie with the World Series of Darts Finals, the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals.

And as is tradition, it all comes to a close at Alexandra Palace with the World Championship which begins on 13^th December.

Boxing

There’s a number of intriguing match-ups taking place in the ring over the next few months.

And they’ll have major implications for 2019’s bouts too. Tyson Fury continues his comeback on the 18^th of August against Francesco Pianeta in Belfast. That’s on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s scrap with Luke Jackson.

Amir Khan takes on Samuel Vargas in Birmingham on the 8^th September, with Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez meeting a week later in Las Vegas.

Seven days after that it’s Anthony Joshua’s turn to take centre stage. AJ meets Alexander Povetkin at Wembley.

USA

The autumn and winter months are NFL season. This year the pigskin brawl is scheduled to start on 6^th September.

The Baseball campaign draws to a close at the end of October with the World Series, with the new NBA and NHL seasons getting underway earlier in the month.
