Eintracht Frankfurt v West Ham betting tips, odds and preview

West Ham had to do it the hard way in the last round and must do so again if they are to reach the Europa League final as we pick out some Eintracht Frankfurt v West Ham betting tips.

A 2-1 defeat in the home leg means the Hammers head to Germany as the underdogs both on the night and to qualify.

They will still believe they can get through, though, ahead of the second leg, which kicks off at 8pm on Thursday and is live on BT Sport.

Antonio goal not enough

West Ham are appearing in their first European semi-final for 46 years but were unable to rise to the occasion in the first leg.

David Moyes’ side were left to rue defensive errors which allowed Frankfurt to take the lead inside the opening minute at the London Stadium through Ansgar Knauff’s header.

The Hammers were able to draw level inside the first half, with Michail Antonio bundling the ball over the line for his first goal since March 2.

However, it was not enough for the London club on the night and Frankfurt were able to retake the lead in the second half, with Daichi Kamada slotting the ball past Alphonse Areola.

West Ham have now drifted to 5/1 in the outright Europa League betting and are 19/10 to win the second leg, with Frankfurt 7/5 to go through with a win and 23/10 for a draw.

Still hope for Hammers

West Ham’s performance on their travels in the quarter-finals shows they have what it takes to still go through.

A 1-1 draw at home to Lyon was followed by a 3-0 win in France and a similar comeback will be needed in Germany.

The Hammers will certainly need to be more ruthless, having hit the woodwork three times in the first leg, and Moyes said: “We’ve got a lot to do. We’ve got to show a lot more quality than we did.

“We didn’t show enough quality, especially in the final third when we had moments to do so and a couple of times we turned off, obviously for the goals. So, a lot of those things will need to brighten up and be better.

“Ultimately a disappointing result for us but we’ve still got another game to play and we’ve given ourselves a chance still and hopefully we’ll play better in the second leg.”

West Ham’s away form in the Premier League does not offer much encouragement, though, having failed to win a point on their travels against any fellow top-eight teams.

Only two goals were scored in those seven defeats and West Ham lost 1-0 at Sevilla in the Europa League round of 16.

They are 11/5 to fail to find the net in Germany and 31/20 for just one goal, with a home win to nil an option for Eintracht Frankfurt v West Ham betting tips at 13/4.

Frankfurt eyeing another big scalp

Frankfurt are languishing in mid-table in the Bundesliga but continue to exceed expectations in the Europa League.

They produced a stunning upset with their 4-3 aggregate victory over Barcelona in the quarter-finals, having previously beaten their Spanish rivals Real Betis.

On both occasions they progressed thanks to an away win and a 1-1 draw in the home leg, a score which is 11/2 to be repeated here.

In the second leg against Barcelona they needed just four minutes to take the lead and were out of the blocks even quicker at the London Stadium.

Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner said: “I am really proud of my team, I am impressed with the way they performed.

“We did the same in Barcelona, we scored the first goal after three minutes. Then it was as we expected it to be. It was very physical, a lot of dead-ball situations and crosses that we had to defend.

“As manager of course I am never 100 per cent happy and the second half, we passed back the ball too often to our goalkeeper, we were at times beyond the halfway line and then went back to the goalkeeper.

“We will need better solutions and that is what we need in the second leg as well.”

In terms of Eintracht Frankfurt v West Ham betting tips, the hosts can be backed at 8/1 to again score inside the first 10 minutes while both teams to score in the first half is a 7/2 shot.
