Well-backed Harzand ensures punters come out on top after wide open Derby

Harzand, a top price 14-1 with Coral this morning, was a well-backed 13-2 third favourite at the off of this year’s Investec Derby, with the colt’s victory ensuring punters came out on top after a wide open renewal of the race.

“A pre-race plunge on US Army Ranger settled the debate over which horse would start favourite for the most open Derby this century, but Harzand was also extremely popular with punters through the day, and his victory means the biggest flat race of the year is a losing one for us,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“On the plus side, as it was so open we took a decent spread of money across the board to minimise the losses, and turnover was extremely healthy as the Epsom Classic took centre stage on a sporting Saturday,” added Stevens.
