We look through the weekend’s sport

The Premier League may be on hiatus but there’s still plenty of top sporting action to get stuck into this weekend.

England get their Nations League campaign underway at Wembley, Enable and Crystal Ocean face-off at Kempton plus Amir Khan steps back into the ring against Samuel Vargas in Birmingham.

The Coral News Team has previewed it all – and a little bit more – below.

England underway in the Nations League

The Nations League may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Gareth Southgate will be hoping his England side can bring their momentum from the World Cup into Saturday’s clash with Spain.

Harry Kane and co. reached the semi-finals in Russia before crashing out to Croatia in extra-time. They’re 9/5 to build on that showing with three points against Spain. Luis Enrique will be looking to open his account as La Roja boss at 19/4.

Crystal Ocean v Enable at Kempton

Enable will make her long-awaited return at Kempton on Saturday. But the filly’s task isn’t as easy as it might have been following the late inclusion of Hardwicke Stakes winner Crystal Ocean.

John Gosden’s stable star is the odds-on favourite to return with a win after landing the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on her final start last season. Can she hit the ground running straight away against a challenger who has proved tough as teak over the past few months? We’ve previewed their clash in more depth here.

Khan returns in Birmingham

Amir Khan made a successful return to the ring in April with a knockout victory over Phil Le Greco in Liverpool. Now he steps up his comeback in Birmingham against Samuel Vargas.

His Colombian opponent is the NCC Welterweight Champion but has lost previous top level fights against Errol Spence Jr. and Danny Garcia. Khan won’t want to waste any time in what should be a pretty one-sided affair. He’s 1/25 to win outright and 16/1 to win in Round 1 for the second fight in a row.

US Open concludes in New York

Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles is firmly in sight for Serena Williams. The 36-year-old American will take on Japan’s Naomi Osaka at Flushing Meadows on Saturday for a place in the history books.

Williams is bidding for her seventh US Open title and a first Grand Slam success since giving birth over a year ago. Can she do it? The Coral traders aren’t taking any chances. She’s 2/5 for the win against 2/1 for Osaka. The Men’s Final takes place 24 hours later on Sunday night.

NFL season really begins

The new NFL season began with a close run thing between the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. That encounter sets us up nicely for the weekend, where the remaining 30 teams will battle it out across Sunday and Monday evening.

Five-time Super Bowl winners, the New England Patriots, get their campaign underway at home to the Houston Texans. Elsewhere, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns renew rivalries at the FirstEnergy Stadium, while the Jacksonville Jaguars are at the New York Giants.
