Liverpool’s Adam Lallana netted after 95 minutes to hand England a 1-0 victory over Slovakia in their opening World Cup qualifying clash, with his first-ever senior goal for his country to give Allardyce a winning start to his international managerial career.
Snodgrass strikes Scotland hat-trick in Malta thrashing
Hull City midfielder Robert Snodgrass hit a hat-trick for Scotland to help his nation earn a comfortable 5-1 success over minnows Malta in their qualifying opener. Chris Martin and Steven Fletcher were also on target in the rout.
Northern Ireland hold Czech Republic on road
After a gallant run during Euro 2016 this past summer, Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland began their World Cup qualifying campaign with a draw, as they earned a point by holding Czech Republic on their travels.

There was racing action with the Haydock Sprint Cup taking centre stage over the weekend, where Quiet Reflection boosted his reputation further…
Quiet Reflection roars to Sprint Cup success
Quiet Reflection proved herself one of the best sprinters in training when storming to an impressive 1 3/4 length success in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock.
The Ontoawinner-owned filly travelled powerfully throughout in the hands of a confident Dougie Costello before quickening clear to win with real authority. The next target for the Karl Burke trained three-year-old is Qipco British Champions Sprint at Ascot on Saturday, October 15th.
Tennis
Andy Murray was in action in the US Open, as the Scot hunts down another Grand Slam title…
Murray downs Lorenzi in four sets
World number two Murray overcame Italian veteran Paolo Lorenzi with a 7-6, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory to secure his place in the last 16 of the US Open, setting up a clash with Grigor Dimitrov.
