Wales v Trinidad and Tobago Betting Tips: Can Giggs’ men begin with a win?

Published:

Preview and odds for tonight’s friendly

Placed into a five-team group with two automatic spots and three sides ranked below them, Wales will fancy their chances of progressing to Euro 2020.

It’s Ryan Giggs’ first qualifying campaign as manager, and he’ll look to maintain the progress Wales showed under Chris Coleman.

But before their first qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday, Giggs is fine-tuning his side with a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago. It’s live on Sky Sports Football, and gets underway at 7.45pm…

Head-to-head

This isn’t the first time these two sides have met. Robbie Earnshaw scored twice in a 2-1 win in 2006, as T&T prepared for their first ever World Cup campaign.

Wales’ form isn’t great. They’ve lost four of their last five games. They’ve also won just one of their last five on home soil.

Tonight’s visitors lie some 74 spots beneath Wales in the rankings, and they’ve won just two of their last 18 away games – against Guadeloupe and Nicaragua.

Likely XIs

Giggs has said he’s focusing on building an international squad, as opposed to a strong XI. The former Manchester United winger has also stated he wants to include players who are regularly playing club football.

Gareth Bale should feature, although Aaron Ramsey is definitely out for this one, but will play against Slovakia. David Brooks may not play the full 90 minutes as he recovers from injury.

Wales will also be without Ethan Ampadu, Sam Vokes and Tom Lawrence for both tonight’s friendly and Sunday’s qualifier.

Harry Wilson could be in the XI after a shining campaign for Derby County.

There’s no Dwight Yorke or Stern John for the visitors anymore, so Lester Peltier and Willis Plaza are expected to lead the attack tonight.

Key battles

This evening’s game should really be about Giggs’ putting together the finishing touches for Sunday’s crucial qualifier.

Trinidad and Tobago are likely to sit back and hope to counter. Wales may come across similar tactics in qualifying against Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan.

So the focus should be on breaking down compact defences while creating space for Gareth Bale to run into.

Match odds

Wales are 2/9 favourites to win this one, with the visitors out at 12/1.

With no Ramsey this evening, Bale sits alone at the top of the goalscorer betting. The Real Madrid ace is 2/1 favourite to score first and 8/13 anytime.

There’s 14/5 about Tyler Roberts bagging the opener, with Brooks and Wilson next up at 9/2.
