US Open Previews: Del Potro well priced to cause another upset
Published:Argentine saw off Federer in Quarter-Finals
The US Open action heads towards its climax this weekend, with a pair of superb Semi-Final ties in the Men’s section.
There have been plenty of surprises along the way, with only one of the current world top 15 involved at this stage.
Here are your stats and tips on tonight’s thrilling action from the Coral News team.
Rafael Nadal v Juan Martin Del Potro (10:30pm)
Nadal’s 2017 revival has been quite a sight to behold. As well as winning the French Open, he reached the Australian Open Final, and has regained his status as world number one.
However, if anyone can beat the Spaniard right now, it’s Del Potro.
The Argentine has won each of his past two meetings with Nadal, both of which took place on hard-court. He’s also impressed in this tournament already, seeing off Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem.
Rafa did breeze to victory in his Quarter-Final clash, though little can be read into that, with Russian Andrey Rublev putting up minimal resistance. This is likely to be a close-run thing, but once again, Coral News think the value lies with the 28-year-old.
Top Bet: Set Betting: Del Potro 3-2 @ 13/2
Kevin Anderson v Pablo Carreno Busta (9:00pm)
This is uncharted territory as far as these two players are concerned. Neither have made it past the Quarter-Finals of a Grand Slam prior to this tournament, though Anderson has the better record at Flushing Meadows, having reached the last eight once before.
It’s also the South African who has the edge in the head-to-heads with Carreno Busta. The man from Johannesburg has won both of the pair’s previous two meetings in two sets.
Both men head into this game in fine form, with Anderson seeing off Sam Querrey, while the Spaniard breezed past world number 33 Diego Schwartzman. However, Anderson’s pedigree and H2H record mean he should have enough to reach the Final.
Top Bet: Anderson to Win @ 2/5
