US Open betting tips, preview and odds

The final grand slam of the year comes to an end tonight and we complete our US Open betting tips with a preview of the men’s singles final at Flushing Meadows.

Two of the most exciting talents in the game meet and we have analysed the odds to come up with our two best bets for the championship match.

Carlos Alcaraz v Casper Ruud

The climax to what has been an extraordinary grand slam tournament will be a straight shootout for a maiden major trophy for both men and top spot in the rankings.

At the age of 19, Alcaraz is the youngest man to make a slam final since his fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal won his first title at the French Open back in 2005.

Alcaraz beat Frances Tiafoe 6-7 (6) 6-3 6-1 6-7 (5) 6-3 in the semi-final, giving us a 6/1 winner in our US Open betting tips after we predicted Alcaraz to win after losing the first set.

Once again he showed Nadal-like powers of mental and physical endurance to recover and beat the American and fitness is certainly not an issue for Alcaraz, who had battled for five sets beyond 2am in his previous two matches.

He has spent nearly 20 hours on court in six matches but said: “I feel great right now. A little bit tired. I’m just so, so happy. I thought about a young man 10 years ago dreaming for this moment.

“It’s amazing to be able to fight for big things. First time in a final of a grand slam. I can see the number one but at the same time it’s so far.

“I have one more to go against a player who plays incredible. I’m going to give everything that I have. I’m going to enjoy the moment and let’s see what happens.”

Ruud’s only titles so far have come at the lowest level of the ATP Tour, and all but one have been on clay, but he has made big strides this season, not least reaching his first grand slam final at the French Open.

He was well beaten by Nadal in Paris but hopes the experience can help against the inexperienced Alcaraz.

“(Nadal) obviously gave me a good beating,” said Ruud. “After the final I said, ‘if I ever reach one again, I hope it is not Rafa on the other side of the court in Roland Garros’, because it’s sort of an impossible task I think for any player. I’m happy that it’s not Rafa on clay.

“I hope it can have prepared me a little bit. At least I know a little bit what I’m facing when I’m stepping on the court, seeing the trophy on the back of the court, seeing tons of celebrities. I hope I can be more ready for that on Sunday.”

His record against Alcaraz does not offer much more hope, though, having lost both previous meetings without winning a set.

The most recent of those was an ATP Masters 1000 final on the hard courts in Miami in April and Alcaraz has looked to be playing at a level above Ruud for much of this tournament.

But Ruud gives little away and will have his moments so Alcaraz to win in four sets at 3/1 is added to our US Open betting tips.

Given that Alcaraz has won 6-4 in two of the four sets these two have played, we’ll also take 17/4 for that score in the first set.
