The heir apparent to Andy Murray
With Andy Murray pulling out through injury, Kyle Edmund remains the sole British player left in the 2017 US Open.
The 22-year-old beat home favourite Steve Johnson yesterday to seal his place in the third round.
There he will face Canada’s Denis Shapovalov, the 18-year-old currently ranked at 67 in the world.
If the Briton can overcome the young prodigy, it will be his best performance in a Grand Slam to date.
South African-born, but raised in Beverley, North Yorkshire, Edmund is the heir-apparent to Murray and hopes are high he can meet his potential.
The Coral News team take a look at three of his high points so far.
Crushes Richard Gasquet in 2016 US Open
The young Briton caused a slight media frenzy with his straight sets destruction of the 13th seed, Richard Gasquet.
Winning 6-2, 6-2, 6-3, Edmund simply outgunned the Frenchman from the baseline with winner-after-winner flying past him.
Edmund finished the match with some amazing statistics including 40 winners, 10 aces, and only 16 unforced errors.
Semis-finals of the European Open, October 2016
Arguably his most impressive tournament performance up to that point, Edmund made it all the way to the semi-finals of the ATP Tour event in Antwerp.
He beat the second seed, David Ferrer at the Quarter-Final stage, in a 2-1 victory.
He was defeated by the eventual tournament winner, Richard Gasquet, in the Semi-Finals. But the Briton had made his mark on the seniors.
A star is born at the Aegon International, June 2013
It was as a sprightly 18-year-old where he first rose to prominence at the Aegon International in Eastbourne.
He easily defeated world No. 82 Kenny de Schepper in straight sets in his opening game. The Frenchman was ranked 360 places above him at the time.
In the following round, the Brit was narrowly defeated by world number 17, Gilles Simon, in two tie-breaks. But his reputation as a future star was solidified.
