Five US Open 2016 day 2 tips
The 2016 US Open gets up-and-running on Monday, but the bottom half of the men’s and top half of women’s draw begin their campaigns on Tuesday with some top players in action.
Tuesday of the Flushing Meadows event features the likes of Andy Murray and Serena Williams, while there is also an all-British battle between Laura Robson and Naomi Broady.
Read on to find out who we’ve picked for our five US Open 2016 day 2 tips…
Murray to win second set 6-3

Murray is quite simply the most in-form player across both the ATP and WTA tours, having incredibly reached the final in each of his last seven even – winning four of them, including at Wimbledon, Queen’s and the Olympics.
He first takes on Lukas Rosol in his bid for a second US Open title, and has beaten him 4-6 6-3 6-2 both times they have met.
So, take terrific 7/2 odds for the superstar Scotsman to claim the second set 6-3 once more.
Robson to edge fellow Brit Broady 2-1

All-British match-ups are becoming more frequent of late in both the men and women’s tours, which is a sign of progress, and this time we see a resurgent Robson against WTA world number 82 Broady.
Despite Broady being ranked far higher, Robson comes into this tournament in flying form and on a running streak of eight, including a title victory and three matches of US Open qualifying.
This duo ave never met before, but expect it to be close with Robson just edging it 2-1 at 3/1.
Stepanek and Simon to go distance

Czech veteran Radek Stepanek is still going strong aged 37, and playing some of his best tennis in many years, so will be a handful for 30th seed Gilles Simon.
The pair have faced off three times before, with Stepanek winning twice – once on carpet and the other on clay – though Simon triumphed in their only battle on a hard court.
This has the potential to go all the way, so odds of 9/4 are available on the match going to over 4.5 sets.
Halep to take opening set 6-4 v Flipkens

Its difficult to explain why Romania’s finest Simona Halep is still without a Grand Slam title to her name, but aged just 24 she still has plenty of time to do so.
She begins her quest for this year’s US Open against experienced Belgian Kirsten Flipkens, though has beaten her in all four meetings before and without dropping a set.
Interestingly, in three of those matches Halep has taken the first set 6-4, so she is a fantastic 5/1 shout to exact that feat.
Verdasco to shock Wawrinka

In another men’s battle of two over 30s players, Fernando Verdasco will be confident of beating Stan Wawrinka, having a better record over him.
The slightly older Spaniard has won three of their five tussles, including last time out at Queen’s in straight sets.
While it may be a closer occasion this time, he is still a tasty 12/5 price to reach the second round.
