Twitter reaction to thrilling Euro 2016 games

Euro 2016 is proving that the drama and excitement on the pitch is outweighing the trouble off of it this summer in France, with Didier Deschamps’ hosts starting to make their mark on home soil and others starring in a so far thrilling tournament.

Following the thrills and spills to date, Coral looks back at the best Twitter reaction from games involving Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal, France and that huge Home Nations battle between England and Wales…

Iceland won over plenty of admirers when holding Portugal to a 1-1 draw in their Group F opener. Cristiano Ronaldo was not one of them though, as he laid into the plucky nation…

The Real Madrid star’s remarks did not sit well with many fans and those from the opposition…

Ronaldo faced a backlash from the Icelandic players…

Meanwhile, France were helped to a 2-0 victory over Albania thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann and, of course, Dimitri Payet. Les Bleus are now the 10/3 favourites with Coral to go all the way this summer

Nobody enjoyed Payet’s latest strike more than his club coach Slaven Bilic though…

Both Griezmann and Pogba were amazingly dropped to the bench for the game, causing uproar among punters and fantasy football team managers alike…

Attentions swiftly turned to the huge crunch clash between England and Wales. Here’s what Coral ambassador Alan Shearer had to say before kick-off…

Before half-time it was once again that man Gareth Bale that set the clash alight, firing in another superb free-kick, with a hint of a Joe Hart mistake…

Despite Bale’s heroics, it was England’s number one that came under fire for not stopping the strike…

Roy Hodgson thrust both Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy on for the second-half and it was an inspired move…

The goal initially looked offside but the linesman made a great call, as the ball came off Ashley Williams…

It was then the other sub Sturridge that fired in a late winner to send England fans wild in France…

Northern Ireland managed to secure their first ever European Championship win thanks to a gallant outing against Ukraine…

Niall McGinn added the second goal after Gareth McAuley’s opener in a historic victory…
