Olympic stars headline the betting for next year’s ceremony
Following Lewis Hamilton’s win at the 2020 BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards on Sunday night, Dina Asher-Smith has been installed as the early 6/1 favourite to win next year.
With the delayed Olympics scheduled to take place next year, there are a number of Team GB athletes included in the list including Adam Peaty at 10/1 and Laura Kenny at 20/1.
Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “With an Olympic year ahead of us in 2021, it’s our Team GB stars that headline the SPOTY betting market for next year’s award. We make Dina Asher-Smith the clear favourite to win the award this time next year.”
Seven-time World F1 champion Lewis Hamilton is 12/1 to win for a second straight year, while Expert Panel Special Award winner Marcus Rashford is 10/1 to win the main award.
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could be set to meet in the ring in the next twelve months in a unified heavyweight title bout, and the outcome of the match could weigh heavy on next year’s SPOTY ceremony. Fury is 12/1 to win with AJ 16/1 to pick up the prestigious award.
“Tyson Fury is in the frame again, despite not taking part last night, and he is 12/1 with Anthony Joshua 16/1 ahead of a mouth-watering clash between the pair. We are betting on that bout, with Fury the odds-on favourite to come out on top,” added Aitkenhead.
