Tuesday’s Championship tips: Villa, Derby and Stoke in action
Published:Preview and odds for tonight’s games
If the opening round of the Champions League group stages weren’t enough to get excited about tonight, there’s a heap of Championship action too.
And it features a number of promotion hopefuls, including Leeds United, Aston Villa, Brentford, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City.
The Coral News Team have looked through the fixtures, run the numbers and have come up with tonight’s tips…
Aston Villa to beat Rotherham Utd @ 1/2
The Villans have only lost once this season, but equally only two wins suggests a lack of a cutting edge for Steve Bruce’s men.
They can work on that tonight though, as 1/2 favourites at home to a Rotherham side which has lost all three of their away games this term, scoring only once in the process.
Brentford to beat Ipswich @ 20/23
Many quietly tipped Dean Smith’s Brentford to do well this season, and so far the Bees are doing just that. They sit second ahead of tonight’s games.
And the West Londoners will be confident of beating Ipswich Town this evening at 20/23. The Tractor Boys sit bottom, and are yet to win this season.
Stoke City v Swansea City – Draw @ 12/5
Stoke City are struggling in the early weeks upon their return to Championship life. On paper Gary Rowett’s squad is far stronger than the table suggests, but they haven’t found their groove yet.
Tonight’s opponents Swansea sit sixth, and Graham Potter has turned the Welsh side into a well-organised and efficient squad which is proving difficult to beat. A draw wouldn’t be a surprise at 12/5.
Wigan Athletic to beat Hull City @ 21/20
Paul Cook’s Wigan Athletic are going nicely this season, following promotion from League One in May.
The Latics have been notably strong at home, collecting seven points from a possible nine. They’re well-poised for another home win at 21/20 tonight against a Hull side which has already been beaten four times this season.
Derby County to beat Blackburn Rovers @ 5/4
After defeat to Rotherham at the weekend, Frank Lampard’s Derby are out to bounce back at home to Blackburn.
The Rams have won five of their last six at Pride Park, and could have the edge at 5/4 with Rovers already conceding six goals on their travels this season.
