Getting the most out of the midweek fixtures
Qualifying second round of the Champions League takes place this week, with Celtic’s trip to Linfield the standout fixture on the list. That match goes on Friday night, but there’s plenty to keep Coral punters busy until then, including four games on Tuesday.
There’s not an awful lot to get excited about in the prices, as you would expect at this stage of the competition, but we have thrown together a few picks in an accumulator, designed to add interest to your Tuesday night. Let’s flick through the selections…..
Red Bull Salzburg beat Hibernians
Game of the night on Tuesday sees Maltese champions Hibernians play host to Red Bull Salzburg. The visitors are expected to get the job done with minimal fuss, taking a solid lead back to Austria, but Coral traders have given us something to work with, pricing the away day up at 2/11, which is a bit better than we expected. This will be the first meeting of these sides in competitive football, but Salzburg are experienced operators at this level, and will fancy their chances of going deep into the competition. A bet on Salzburg looks the best way to get started.
Qarabag beat Samtredia
FC Qarabag should have no trouble getting the desired result at the first time of asking, and our traders want to keep them close. So much so in fact there’s 1/5 currently available on the home win, so we must work a bit harder for our value fix. The Horsemen finished as champions of the Azerbaijan Premier League last season, and will rate their chances against footballing minnows Samtredia. Home advantage makes the difference, and we’ll take Qarabag -1 on the handicap at 8/11.
Partizan Belgrade beat Podgorica
Partizan Belgrade will stretch their legs with a convincing win over Buducnost Podgorica. They’re tight at 1/6 to put one foot in the next round, but we reckon they will be a bit more convincing than that, so will take a punt on -1 in the handicap market, currently available at 8/15 with Coral. The Serbs won the SuperLiga and have plenty of experience playing in European football to call upon. Should progress with a bit to spare. Let’s hope they deliver.
Rijeka beat New Saints
The New Saints snuck through round one with a 4-3 aggregate win over Europa, thanks to a stylish 3-1 away cheer last time. It is worth noting that they lost the first leg 2-1 however, and this rates as a massive step up in class, against an opponent that won’t let mistakes go unpunished. New Saints aren’t expected to go to the group stages, or get anywhere near it, so we round off with Rijeka -1 at 1/4.
