Trump out to 5-1 in betting to be next US president

Donald Trump’s chances of becoming the next US president have taken a dint, according to leading bookmaker Coral who has pushed his odds out to 5-1 (from 7-2) following his defeat to Ted Cruz in the Wisconsin primary. Hilary Clinton remains the odds-on favourite at 4-9 to win the race to the White House, while Cruz has been cut into 9-1 (from 14-1).

In the Republican candidate market, Trump is now out to even money. He was as short as 1-12 earlier this year but after his latest defeat, he has drifted out in the betting, with Ted Cruz now available at 13-8.

“A few weeks ago the betting suggested Donald Trump was a sure thing to be the Republican candidate, however, that is no longer the case as there is very little between the property magnate and Ted Cruz in the latest market,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“Hilary Clinton remains odds-on to win the race to the White House, however, Sanders and Cruz are now both becoming serious challengers, according to the betting,” added Hill.
