Marju’s Quest poised to follow-up

Marju’s Quest bounced back to form in no uncertain terms when scoring last time out and can make light of a penalty to follow-up in the 2m handicap hurdle on this evening’s card at Towcester (18.00).

The David Dennis trained gelding was in terrific form last season when winning four handicaps, with the last of those successes coming off a mark of 120.

Marju’s Quest went on to land a seller at Worcester by eight lengths off an official rating of 125, and was also far from disgraced when finishing in the frame on his final two starts of the campaign.

The six-year-old was then given a 188 day break and failed to sparkle in his first two starts back.

However, that resulted in the handicapper cutting Marju’s Quest plenty of slack and he took advantage of a reduced rating of 112 to bolt up by eight lengths at Market Rasen three days ago.

The manner of that victory suggested the son of Marju was back to his best, and it’s no surprise to see connections turn him out quickly under a 7lb penalty before the assessor has his say.

Taking it into account, Marju’s Quest is running off 119 and still remains very well-treated on the pick of his form.

Orby’s Man makes plenty of appeal

In the 3m handicap chase (19.00), Orby’s Man can take advantage of a drop in the weights to notch a first success over the larger obstacles.

The Charlie Longsdon trained gelding was a fair hurdler rated 119 at his peak, and ran really well on his third start over fences when a two length third to Etania off a mark of 114.

Orby’s Man has failed to build on that in two subsequent outings, but is now able to race off a career-low rating of 107 as a result.

That gives the seven-year-old major claims from a handicapping perspective, and Orby’s Man is now reunited with jockey Aidan Colman who gets a good tune out of him.

Longsdon also has a healthy 20 per cent strike rate with his runners at the track in the past 12 months, and another plus is that Orby’s Man drops back down to class 4 company having competed in a class 3 affair when last seen in action.
