Racing ambassador previews his weekend rides
Saturday – Newbury
I start the day on Legal History, who is having his first run over hurdles. He’s schooled nicely, and while it’s a competitive looking race, we’re hopeful of a nice start.
His flat form is respectable, and he’s pleased us at home so I’m looking forward to this.
Aurillac is coming back after a long lay off. He showed some decent form in novice chases a while back, but was then pulled up on his last two runs, but he seems fit and well at home now.
He showed some good course form a couple of years ago, but he is returning from a long time off and we’ll know more after tomorrow.
I’m on Kateson for Tom Lacey in the Challow Hurdle, which is a cracking looking contest.
His form has worked out well, especially his Chepstow win, which has thrown up winners all over the place! He’s ready for this step up in class, is a horse I think an awful lot of, and I’m really looking forward to it.
My final ride here is on Mount Rushmore for the Tizzards. We’ve got a bit to find on the handicap, but he showed bits of form in novice hurdles without getting his head in front.
In his favour is the form of the yard, as we’ve seen in recent days, so we’re not without a chance.
Sunday – Haydock
1.25 – Druide Premier
Two rides on Sunday, beginning with Druide Premier for Dave [Pipe]. He’s taken reasonably well to hurdles, as you’d hope for a brother of the top class Dynaste, but in this grade he’s got a bit to find.
Hopefully he can build on his first two runs, it’s small steps with him at this stage and we’re just looking for him to keep going forward.
2.00 – Dell’ Arca
Dell’ Arca is an old favourite, and not unlike Daklondike – who won last weekend – in that he’s a bit of an enigma and you never quite know how he’s going to run.
On his Kerry National run from September he’d pick these up and carry them, but his two runs since then have been disappointing.
He’s worth a try over this 3 ½ mile trip after his last run at Cheltenham over hurdles, and there’s no reason why he can’t bounce back to form, but I’m only guessing at which Dell’ Arca will turn up, although that worked with Daklondike so fingers-crossed!
