The Coral ambassador previews his rides ahead of Coral Welsh Grand National day at Chepstow

12.30 Chepstow – Promising Milan

He ran well to a point at Cheltenham last time, and will hopefully improve for the run. He’s dropping back in trip which could suit too. Whatever happens in this race he is a horse to follow.

13.05 Chepstow – Moonlighter

He was unfortunate at Newbury last time but he ran very well at Exeter in the Haldon Gold Cup the time before. I think he will be really suited to Chepstow and the ground he’ll encounter here. He has an outstanding chance. He’s probably my best chance on the day.

13.40 Chepstow – Yggdrasil

He’s a lovely horse. He ran well at Sandown on his debut. He’s a big horse with very little experience, and Nick wants to keep him in the top grade as if he was to lose his maiden status he’ll do so winning a decent race. He should handle the conditions but it’s a competitive Grade One. He will have improved a lot from his debut at Sandown but then again he will have to if he is to win this.

14.50 Chepstow – Ramses De Teillee

A close fourth on Monbeg Dude is my best finish in the Coral Welsh Grand National to date so would be great to win it. Ramses De Teillee seems to have come out of his run at Aintree well. He schooled nicely during the week, and we know he’s got an outstanding record around Chepstow. Yes he’s got a lot of weight but he’s got that weight for a reason. Even at Aintree he did really well to stay in contention for as long as he did. It was just the culmination of the mistakes he made that cost him in the end. I think his form has been better than ever this season, and his Chepstow record speaks for itself. He has got a very good chance.

It’s going to be seriously heavy ground and that brings all the mud lovers into play and he’s one of them. Yala Enki is a big danger and you have to respect the younger horses Springfield Fox and Secret Reprieve.

Vieux Lion Rouge is well in after his Aintree success. However he loves Aintree, and it was Ramses De Teillee’s Chepstow record that swung it for me.

If for any reason Chepstow succumbed to the heavy rain then I would reroute to Wetherby to ride Remastered and Caldwell for my brother.

Remastered won well around Carlisle in a good Beginners Chase. He has been inconsistent in the past but he is in good order at the moment and I’m very confident he can back up that win with another good effort. He really took to chasing well. We’ve always thought he’d make a good chaser. Caldwell is a really nice juvenile hurdler. He has taken really well to hurdling at home and has some decent flat form for Dermot Weld so looks a nice type.
