Tipping Tim’s Weekend Bets
Published:Whitbread Saturday is undoubtedly the worst Saturday of the racing year, so I’m going in a day early this week so that I can focus on the far superior Friday card. Why anyone would want to watch a herd of lumbering yaks ploughing through four miles of bushy fences when they could be watching classy flat horses is anyone’s guess, so I will bet three winners tomorrow and retire from active service until Monday.
The nap on Friday has to be Sky Hunter in the Gordon Richards Stakes (2.10 Sandown). Favourite Telescope is the biggest talking horse since Eeyore and, if widely publicised reports are anything to go by, Eeyore would have beaten him in his recent gallop. I’m never one to place too much emphasis on homework but it sounds like he was all out to beat an exposed handicapper that day and, with Sky Hunter a better horse on all known form anyway, I fully expect Godolphin’s French import to smash Liz Hurley’s pride and joy’s reputation to pieces for once and for all.
The next best has to be End Of Line in the 1.40 Sandown. There are two colts in this field who looked like certain Group horses on their debuts; this one and Sacred Act. On marks of 89 and 90 respectively I’m sure that both have a least a stone in hand and it might be that End Of Line runs to 100 and still gets chinned, but the Gosden beast will make the market and I can’t resist backing End Of Line to win this hot handicap on the way to better things.
For the Trixie I will take a chance on Red Galileo in the Classic Trial at 3.15. Western Hymn will take plenty of stopping but the rest are much of a muchness and, having gone toe-to-toe with some decent horses as a 2yo, Ed Dunlop’s powerful son of Dubawi might be the each way play here.
Good luck with all your bets this weekend!
