Thursday’s French Open tips: Muguruza and Stephens set for Final?
Published:Odds and tip for Women’s semi-finals
The Wone’s Singles semi-finals are on the schedule at the French Open today, with two intriguing ties ahead.
Simona Halep takes on Garbine Muguruza and Sloane Stephens is up against Madison Keys.
Here’s how the Coral News Team see the two matches shaping up…
Halep and Muguruza meet having had little rest since their respective quarter-final wins on Wednesday.
That could have more of an effect on Halep. The world number one played an extra set, and an additional hour, of tennis than her opponent yesterday.
Muguruza will be ready to take advantage of any weariness from the Romanian. She’s yet to drop a set in Paris and knocked out Maria Sharapova with ease. The Spaniard also has a 3-1 head-to-head record against Halep.
An all-American semi-final sees Stephens looking for her third consecutive straight-sets win over Madison Keys.
The last clash came in the 2017 US Open final, which saw Keys make a string of unforced errors to hand her friend the title.
Keys’ game has come a long way on clay, but she can’t match Stephens’ natural comfort on the surface yet. Her powerful shots also don’t have much impact against the 25-year-old, who can hit back just as fiercely.
