Three reasons why Aubameyang is the man Chelsea need

Gabon ace linked with Stamford Bridge move

Barring a sensational second-half of the season, Chelsea will not be winning the Premier League title in May.

Indeed at their current rate, Antonio Conte’s Blues are set to finish at least 20 points behind likely champions Manchester City.

And with continued speculation that both Conte and star duo Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard could leave the club, all is not well in West London.

But recent reports suggest the Stamford Bridge outfit could land Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is unlikely to stop Man City this season, but his arrival would be beneficial for three reasons…

Aubameyang is the perfect alternative

While Chelsea don’t have a huge problem in scoring goals, they have come unstuck a couple of times this season.

They drew 0-0 at home to Arsenal in September, while they again fired a blank in losing to Man City later that month.

A 3-0 loss at Roma was also an indicator that they could use alternative options up front. As good as Morata is, he isn’t the quickest while Michy Batshuayi still has to prove himself consistently.

Aubameyang is the perfect alternative for Chelsea. His pace and movement would offer Conte a huge tactical benefit.

He’s a guaranteed goal-getter

Aubameyang’s goal record speaks for itself.

The 28-year-old has scored 121 goals his last 160 games for Dortmund.

And the stats suggest he is at his peak right now. He hit 39 goals in 2015-16, before upping that to his first 40-goal haul last season.

He’s already on 17 from just 19 games this term, suggesting he could be another for another career-best.

He can keep Conte happy

One of the main reasons behind Conte’s reported unhappiness at Stamford Bridge was a lack of movement in the transfer summer window.

Prime target Romelu Lukaku was allowed to slip through the net to rivals Manchester United.

And having seen former Blues players Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne flourish elsewhere, Conte may be right in questioning Chelsea’s transfer policy.

So landing Aubameyang could go some way to easing the Italian’s concerns. With all the top managers in place elsewhere, Chelsea can’t afford to let Conte go.
