Three reasons Danny Rose’s potential move to PSG makes sense

Left-back could be on the move
Tottenham Hotspur didn’t make a single signing this summer, but there still wasn’t a place for Danny Rose in their squad against Newcastle United last weekend.
At his best, Rose is one of the leading left-backs in the top flight. But he’s lost his place in the team to Ben Davies after struggling with injury. His criticism of Spurs’ transfer policy and wage structure last year didn’t go down well either.
The transfer window is still open on the continent, which means he could move on this month with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested.
The Coral News Team have had a look at why it could be a smart move…
First-team football
Rose only made 17 appearances for Spurs last season. Unless Davies gets an injury, he’s unlikely to make too many more this term for the North London club.
Layvin Kurzawa is the only proven left-back in the PSG squad. If Rose gets a run of games, he could be an upgrade on the Frenchman.
In 2016-17, the last season when he was a regular starter, he averaged more tackles (2 to 1.71), chances created (1.53 to 0.65), successful take ons (1.47 to 0.89) and less defensive errors (0.06 to 0.12) per 90 minutes than Kurzawa managed last term.
Left wing link-up
Neymar had a mixed first season in France. He started off incredibly well, but after picking up an injury, there was a sense that he was more focused on getting fit for the World Cup than returning to play for his club.
Kylian Mbappe’s sensational World Cup, compared with the Brazilian’s dramatics, means he’s not necessarily the biggest star at the club anymore either.
However, the arrival of Rose could help him to cement his place in the upper echelons of the game. Neymar starts wide on the left and likes to cut inside, while Rose constantly races down the flank.
Opposition right-backs could be stuck in no man’s land against both of them. If they go with Neymar, Rose will be unmarked on the wing, but if they track the run, Neymar is free to run at goal.
Tuchel’s type
Rose is exactly the sort of well-rounded player that new PSG boss Thomas Tuchel likes to work with. His time working with Mauricio Pochettino has tightened up his defensive instincts, without compromising his attacking threat.
PSG are so dominant in Ligue 1 that they control most games without any problems. But when they face another European giant, they struggle to adjust. Despite their massive spending, they’ve been unable to get beyond the Champions League quarter-finals. They’re 6/1 to win it this year.
Their possession-based game doesn’t work as well against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City, who can use the ball even better. Tuchel has a very flexible approach and will look to add more variety to the team’s style.
Rose would give him the option to play with a back three or a back four. He can defend deep or play more like a traditional winger. He isn’t a superstar, but he could be very useful in the biggest games.
