Newmarket 2.15 – Queue Dos
A busy day begins on Queue Dos, a daughter of Massaat, a horse I rode, so it’s good to see him having runners. She made her debut at Bath just five days ago, so they’re getting her out quickly, but she’s obviously come out of the run well. She will need to take a big step forward, but that can happen, and if she does, hopefully she can run a nice race.
Newmarket 2.50 – Crystal Delight
I’ve ridden this fellow to win on three previous occasions, including his two starts this season, when he’s been a real revelation, he just keeps improving. He stays well, and is the sort of horse who can just bowl along in front and get into a nice rhythm, so Newmarket should suit him.
He is wrong at the weights with a couple of these as we’re stepping into Listed company here, but he put up a big performance at York last time, so if he can improve again from that, he should be able to cope with this grade. I’m looking forward to this, and hopefully he remains on the upward curve.
Newmarket 3.25 – Pogo
Pogo is a real old favourite for the Charlie Hills’ team, this will be his 49th start, but my first on him. He ran well to be third behind Tiber Flow at Haydock last time, and is better off with that one here. He won this race in 2022, and generally goes well at this track, so in a tight looking Group 3, I see no reason why he won’t run well again.
Newmarket 4.00 – Mercury Day
Mercury Day won her first start for Conrad Allen, having been with Ralph Beckett previously, so she comes here in good form, and according to Conrad, he’s been very happy with her since that Nottingham win, so hopefully she will go well.
Newmarket 4.35 – Alhattan
I end the day with two for Shadwell. Alhattan is a lovely daughter of Lope De Vega who just got touched off at Salisbury last time. I think she might be better with a little bit of ease in the ground, which she probably won’t get here, but the step up to a mile and a half should suit her. She did cope with quick ground, so with the extra distance in her favour, she should run very well.
Newmarket 5.10 – Mafnood
Mafnoos is another lovely homebred, who has stacks of ability but doesn’t always show it. He’s got blinkers on him here, which will hopefully sharpen him up. He was a little bit unlucky at Sandown last time, he just got bumped around a little bit, so I’ll try to get him close to the front end here, give him some daylight, and that should help him run a good race.
