Thirsk Preview: Amazing Blue Sky weighted to shine

Published:

Trainer Ruth Carr has her team in fine form, and Amazing Blue Sky looks to have major claims of providing the York-based handler with another winner in the 1m 4 handicap at Thirsk this evening (9.20).

The eight-year-old has been a grand servant over the years, winning nine times in 95 starts and finishing placed on 24 occasions.

The gelding is a tough front runner who is difficult to pass when on-song, and took advantage of his falling mark when scoring at Newcastle last June by 2 1/4 lengths off a rating of 55.

The son of Barathea now gets into this contest off just 49, having shaped recently as if ready to return to winning ways.

Amazing Blue Sky has finished fourth in his last three runs, running better than the bare result on each occasion, and with underfoot conditions to suit is simply too well-treated to ignore in what looks a very winnable contest.

See Clearly is on a long losing run, but has fallen in the weights as a result and looks decent each-way value in the 6f handicap (6.50).

The Tim Easterby trained mare has not won since scoring over course and distance back in August 2012.

However, that win came off a mark of 64 and See Clearly now gets into this off a rating of just 57.

It gives the five-year-old, who was placed several times last season off 65, a massive chance at the weights.

The daughter of Bertolini also shaped really well three starts back at Doncaster when beaten beaten just 1/2 a length off today’s rating, and although See Clearly has failed to back that effort up in two subsequent starts, her stable is going well and she is just the type to bounce back.

In the mile handicap (8.50), Bearskin is interesting now fitted with blinkers for the first time.

The Anne Duffield trained gelding shaped well on handicap debut when running on late to finish fifth of 16 to Le Latier over 6f at Redcar off 60, and has been far from disgraced in two subsequent starts.

Today’s mile and fast ground could well be the ideal combination for Bearskin, and if the headgear has the desired effect his current mark of 57 looks exploitable.
