Former Arsenal star ready for top job?
Thierry Henry looks set to take his first steps into management with Aston Villa.
Betting has been suspended on the former Arsenal man taking the reins at the Championship club.
Coral traders went as short as 1/4 for the Frenchman to take over at Villa Park before betting stopped on the market.
John Hill of Coral said: “It looks like Thierry Henry’s first managerial job will be with Aston Villa where he has been very popular in the betting over the last 48 hours.
We have suspended betting for now until the dust settles but it does appear as though they are just waiting for the ink to dry on the contract,”
The club looked in real jeopardy only a matter of weeks ago. Speculation swirled that they would have to sell players on the cheap and look for bargains and freebies in the transfer market.
However this all changed when Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris and Milwaukee Bucks owner Wes Edens became 55% majority stakeholders.
This has reportedly catapulted them to the third richest club in the whole of English football.
It’s now unclear what stance they will take with current boss Steve Bruce, but Henry is waiting in the wings if the newly-installed top brass fancy a shake-up.
