Theresa May cut to 2-1 to depart as PM in 2017

Leading bookmaker Coral has cut the odds on Theresa May leaving her position as Prime Minister in 2017 into 2-1 (from 4-1) following a flurry of bets in the last 24 hours. The PM is also 2-1 to leave Downing Street in 2018, 5-2 to depart in 2019 and it is 6-1 that she remains in her role until 2020.

In the next Conservative leader market, Boris Johnson is the 4-1 favourite to replace May. David Davis is second best at 5-1, while Jacob Rees-Mogg is 7-1 to lead the party next.

“The betting now suggests Theresa May’s time as PM is running out as her odds to leave her role during 2017 have been cut significantly following a strong gamble over the last couple of days,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“Boris Johnson’s future in the Cabinet looks unclear, however, he is the favourite in the betting to replace Theresa May as the next Conservative leader, while we have also seen money for David Davis and Jacob Rees-Mogg,” added Hill.
