McGregor’s best quotes ahead of UFC 196

Conor McGregor’s attempt to make history and become the first ever UFC fighter to hold two world titles simultaneously will have to wait, after initial Brazilian opponent Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from their previously scheduled lightweight contest in Las Vegas.

Instead, the current featherweight title holder will make a massive step up to welterweight to collide with American rival Nate Diaz at UFC 196 this weekend, when the deadly Irishman is 11/8 with Coral to halt his latest opponent in the opening round.

Since bursting onto the scene and taking the UFC by storm, ‘the Notorious’ has, as well as gained huge success, become one of the most quotable sports stars on the planet with his confidently brash outbursts entertaining fans, on top of his incredible octagon knockouts.

So, ahead of his next outing in the early hours of this upcoming Sunday morning, here are McGregor’s best quotes to date..

UFC debut and getting paid

“I didn’t have money before this. I was collecting 188 Euro a week off the social welfare. And now here I am, with like 60 G’s bonus and then my own pay. I don’t know what the F’s going on to be honest, right?”

When McGregor made his maiden UFC appearance, the Dubliner barely had a penny to his name but, after seven impressive victories in the organisation and a featherweight world title, ‘the Notorious’ has swiftly gone from rags to riches, with his dedication truly paying off.

Pulling no punches before Poirier fight

“I believe he’s a basic fighter, he throws basic shots, and in my eyes he’s a journeyman. It’s that simple. Don’t get me wrong, I like the kid. He is a quiet little hillbilly from the back arse of nowhere. His cousin is probably named Cleatus, I have nothing against the guy but coming up against me, that’s not going to be good. I’m going to crack him with a jab and put him away early.”

Ahead of his battle with Dustin Poirier, McGregor laid down some of his legendary trash talk, getting stuck into his Louisiana-born opposition before securing a stunning first-round stoppage.

The American dream

“There’s two things I really like to do and that’s whoop ass and look good. I’m doing one of them right now and on Saturday night, I’m doing the other.”

As he was set to make his American debut in Boston, the flamboyant Irishman produced this cracking remark, whilst donning a typically flash custom made suit.

Inspiration

“I am cocky in prediction. I am confident in preparation, but I am always humble in victory or defeat.”

More of an inspirational statement from the UFC featherweight champion next, and one that will undoubtedly be referred to a lot in the future, especially for motivational purposes.

Taking over

“We’re not just here to take part — we’re here to take over.”

Arguably McGregor’s most famous words since rising to prominence. When the UFC initially landed on the Emerald Isle, there wasn’t a sole star ready to conquer on the biggest platform but, the Dubliner’s emergence has answered such a calling and he believes Irish fighters are coming to dominate.

Before ending Aldo’s reign

“I will go over to Brazil and take out every man, woman and child to get that belt.”

Ahead of his highly-awaited featherweight match-up with Jose Aldo, in which he dusted the Brazilian off in just 13 seconds, McGregor was focused solely on collecting the world title.

Best job in the world

“I have the greatest job in the world. I get paid loads of cash for beating the crap out of people. And I’m very good at it.”

McGregor has highlighted on various occasions that he possesses the best job in the world, and it’s one he isn’t half bad at either.

Trash talk? What trash talk?

“Trash talk? Smack talk? This is an American term that makes me laugh. I simply speak the truth. I’m an Irish man.”

Dublin’s finest export says he speaks only the truth, and who’s to argue with him?

On the finer things in life

“These custom-made suits aren’t cheap. This solid gold pocket watch, three people died making this watch. I need to put people away. I need those big fights. I’m going to end up in debt pretty fast.”

McGregor is racking in the funds with his UFC exploits, but he sure knows how to spend it too.

It’s a celebration

“Because I change your bum life. I can make you rich. I can change your bum life. You fight me, it’s a celebration. When you sign to fight me, it’s a celebration, you ring back home, you ring, ‘Baby, we done it. We’re rich. Conor McGregor made us rich. Break out the red panties. We’re rich, baby.'”

Aimed at Donald Cerrone and withdrawn opponent Dos Anjos, McGregor pulled out one his most memorable remarks, laying into the entire roster during a press conference and declaring his name as the most sought-after.

McGregor’s words are a constant flow of entertainment to fight fans worldwide, but he has so far backed them up too, and ‘the Notorious’ will aim to cement his legacy further with victory over stand-in rival Diaz this weekend at UFC 196.

For potential new customers, you can back McGregor to beat Diaz at an amazing 10/1 this weekend, with a max £5 stake and likely winnings paid out as free bets.
