New Zealand international striker Chris Wood has signed for Leeds United, after agreeing a £3m deal to sign from Premier League club Leicester City.

Wood was part of the Foxes promotion from the Championship and boss Uwe Rosler will be hoping that the frontman can add the requisite experience needed for the West Yorkshire outfit to follow suit. Leeds are 11/1 with Coral to gain promotion from the Championship next term and considered huge outsiders.

Boss Uwe Rosler expressed his delight at finally landing the player: “I think it’s the right player at the right time,” said Rosler. “That sort of player with proven Championship quality is rare.

“I’m very happy that we’ve got him. I think it’s the right player at the right price, at the right stage of his career. There was competition from other clubs. “I think he’s another important piece of the jigsaw. We were looking for a number nine type – like Chris Wood is.

“He’s physical, strong and experienced in this league. He has potential to develop and has his best years in front of him. “It’s exciting. He already has a proven goalscoring record and I think there are many goals to come. We think that he is the right player.”

Although he spent an unsuccessful second part of last season on loan at Ipswich Town, Wood will be hoping to perform better.

Meanwhile, former Foxes defender Sol Bamba has spoken of his relief after completing his permanent move to Leeds after spending last season on loan at the club from Serie A side Palermo.

“It’s great to be signing my contract here,” the Ivory Coast international said. “I always said I wanted to remain at the club and it’s good news.

“Obviously, I need to kick on with everyone involved at the club. Now we have to get on with the football and I must try to do the best I can as an individual and us as a team.”

At just 23, Kiwi frontman Wood is also at the right age and could form part of a new attack at Elland Road, with the club also pursuing other options both abroad and in the UK.
