Steven Caulker’s odds cut to make World Cup squad

Published:

Bookmaker Coral has halved Cardiff’s Steven Caulker’s odds from 8-1 into 4-1 to make the England World Cup squad, after he was called up by Roy Hodgson to face Denmark next week. Southampton’s left-back Luke Shaw has received his first senior international call and is now 4-1 to make the cut.

Shaw’s teammates Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez all keep their places on the roster and are 10-11, 9-4 and 5-1 respectively to go to Brazil. Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has been promoted from the Under-21 set-up again and is 6-4 to make the World Cup squad, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can be backed at 4-5.

“Roy Hodgson has stressed that his selections are not definitive yet and Steven Caulker’s call-up has led to a gamble on him making the cut, despite his side having the second-worst defensive record in the Premier League,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
