Following an action-packed opening day at golf’s premier team event, the USA’s lead has been cut by visiting Europe.

Ryder Cup outright betting update
Europe mounted a courageous comeback in the Ryder Cup day one fourballs, shrugging off their 4-0 foursomes loss by ending the day only 5-3 behind at Hazeltine National, Minnesota. Europe had drifted to 6-1 for the Cup after the morning whitewash, but Darren Clarke’s men provided a spirited response and have been cut to 13-5 by Coral.
Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters beat Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar 3&2, Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera-Bello saw off JB Holmes and Ryan Moore by the same scoreline, while Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson took emphatic revenge on Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth with a 5&4 triumph. Brandt Snedeker and Brooks Koepka notched the only American point of the fourballs, Martin Kaymer having a shocker alongside Danny Willett. The States are out to 4-9, with the tie 9-1.
Day two foursomes tips
Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson versus Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters
This American duo narrowly won their day-one foursomes, coming from behind to edge McIlroy and Andy Sullivan, but it is a surprise to find them retained for the second session. Mickelson’s driving was erratic and this duo are probably not carrying a tight enough long-game to register another point. Mickelson and Fowler were the most fortunate winners of the foursomes – Lady Luck was on their side – but McIlroy can gain revenge with a stronger partner alongside him at evens with Coral. Thomas Pieters has made an impressive start to his Ryder Cup career.
Brandt Snedeker and Brooks Koepka versus Henrik Stenson and Matthew Fitzpatrick
Snedeker and Koepka were able to quickly relax in their fourballs match because it quickly became obvious they were up against only one player. Martin Kaymer completely lost his form, leaving Danny Willett to fight manfully on his own. Do not expect this States duo to have it so easy in the foursomes, where their driving accuracy weakness will be put under more pressure. Matt Fitzpatrick is typically laserlike from tee to green and this looks a chance for Europe to level the match at 5-5 if the youngster settles quickly on his Ryder Cup debut. Go for Europe at 5-4 with Coral.
Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson versus Justin Rose and Chris Wood
Walker and Johnson made an unconvincing start against Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer in the opening foursomes, but the Americans stepped up a gear and ran out comfortable winners. Johnson, in particular, always seems to find a way of doing himself justice when representing his country. The Yanks will fancy their chances of another success, with Europe blooding their weakest rookie, the out of form Wood. Rose will have to produce his best performance of the week if Europe are to triumph, so the 11-10 Coral are offering about Walker and Johnson looks generous.
Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth versus Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera-Bello
European golf fans will have been thrilled with the way Cabrera-Bello handled his Ryder Cup debut in the opening fourballs. The Spaniard, prone to nerves on the European Tour, was all smiles and performed as well as could have been expected. He gelled wonderfully with his compatriot Garcia, but they face the ultimate test today. If Europe get something from this match, hopes of a fourth consecutive Cup victory will sky-rocket, but it seems much more likely that the Texan tough guys will succeed at 19-20 with Coral. A 2-2 foursomes result could be on the cards.
