St Swithin’s day leads to weather betting boom

Published:

Bookmaker Coral has opened betting on tomorrow’s weather to mark St. Swithin’s Day and tradition dictates that whatever the weather is like on that day, it will continue for the next 40 days.

The odds suggest that it in typical British fashion the weather will be a mixture of rain and sunshine for the next 40 days, with Coral going 1-2 that it rains in London, and 33-1 that it’s the hottest day of the year.

The firm go even money that Britain sizzles in highs of up to 30C before the week is out, while at the same time, slashing the odds on this summer being the hottest ever into 5-1 from 6-1.

“All eyes will be on the sky tomorrow as tradition dictates that whatever the weather is like on St Swithin’s Day, it will continue for the next 40 days and the latest odds suggest we’re in for a mixed bag”, said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
