Southampton v Crystal Palace betting tips: Home help for Saints

Preview and odds for Tuesday’s match

Southampton lost to Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the season so have had a long wait for their chance of revenge.

Saints have had a disappointing second half of the campaign but have the chance to end it on a high as they start a run of three successive home matches in eight days against Palace, Fulham and Leeds.

Palace got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-0 victory at rock-bottom Sheffield United to move four points clear of Southampton.

Tuesday’s game kicks off at 8.15pm and is live on Sky Sports as we pick out some potential Southampton v Crystal Palace betting tips.

Southampton v Crystal Palace match odds

Neither team has been in good form recently but Saturday’s win at Bramall Lane, which guaranteed Premier League safety, will have boosted Palace’s morale and they are 5/2 for a seventh away victory.

That was the first time in nine matches that Palace have scored more than one goal in a game, with Christian Benteke’s early goal followed by Eberechi Eze’s late clincher.

Palace are 2/1 to score at least twice again but that was only their second clean sheet on their travels so both teams to score is an option at 3/4.

Southampton suffered a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool on Saturday and have now lost 13 of their last 17 games.

They have beaten Burnley and drawn with Leicester in their last two home games, though, with a Saints win priced up at 23/20 and a draw 12/5.

Southampton v Crystal Palace head-to-head

Wilfried Zaha was once again the hero for Palace on the opening day of the season when his goal after just 13 minutes proved to be the winner.

Vicente Guaita’s excellent close-range save from Che Adams in the 53rd minute was the closest Southampton went, with Danny Ings nullified by a makeshift Palace defence due to the Eagles missing seven first-teamers.

Saints had been unbeaten against Palace in the previous four meetings but the last two match-ups at St Mary’s have ended 1-1, a result which is 11/2 to be repeated.

Previous XI

Crystal Palace: Guaita, Ward, Cahill, Mitchell, Milivojevic, Kouyate, Townsend, Schlupp, Eze, Zaha, Benteke.

Team news

Southampton could have top scorer Danny Ings back from the hamstring problem he sustained at Tottenham on April 21 while on-loan Takumi Minamino is available after being ineligible against his parent club Liverpool. Ryan Bertrand (calf), Oriol Romeu (ankle) and Will Smallbone (knee) remain out.

Crystal Palace have no new injury worries but Mamadou Sakho (thigh), James McArthur (calf) and Connor Wickham (muscle) are unlikely to feature again this season.

Key battles

Zaha is usually the dangerman for Palace as he proved in September’s meeting and he will again be a handful for Saints right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, who was shown a red card in that game before it was downgraded to a booking on review.

Benteke’s goal on Saturday made it four in his last 10 appearances and he is 11/2 to open the scoring, with Zaha available at 9/2. There are a number of #YourCall markets available for Zaha too, including 10/1 for him to score at any time and be shown a card.

Southampton have only managed two goals in their last five games in all competitions but the return of Minamino will give them more creativity which Ings can make the most of.
