Six Nations betting tips for Round 5

The 2023 championship concludes on Saturday and we have some Six Nations betting tips for all three matches.

We looked at the Six Nations winner odds after the last set of matches but here we focus on the final round of fixtures.

Scotland v Italy (Sat, 12.30pm)

Scotland are seeking a third win of the campaign but are without influential backs Finn Russell and Stuart Hogg due to injuries that forced them off in the closing stages of last weekend’s defeat by Ireland.

The Scots have taken encouragement from the way they performed in back-to-back losses to the two top teams in the world at least and will now look to end on a high as they did in the autumn series with an emphatic win over Argentina after a spirited defeat against the heavyweights of New Zealand.

Italy have lost all four of their Six Nations matches so far but have been competitive for long spells and are not the whipping boys they have often been in the past.

With Scotland missing two of their most experienced players, we’re backing Italy with 14 points on the handicap at evens as the first of our Six Nations betting tips.

France v Wales (Sat, 2.45pm)

Wales are the 12/1 outsiders as they conclude what has been a largely underwhelming campaign against the free-scoring French, who are fresh from demolishing England 53-10 at Twickenham.

One glance at the Six Nations table reveals the size of the task facing Wales, with France having scored 16 tries and 133 points in four games. They are joint-top of the try chart with leaders Ireland and have amassed more points than any other team.

Wales, in contrast, can reflect on just seven touchdowns and the tournament’s worst points difference. Defensively, only Italy have conceded more tries than Warren Gatland’s side, so everything points to Les Bleus dominating.

A bonus-point victory for France would keep their title hopes alive and we like evens in the Six Nations odds for France to overcome 20 points on the handicap.

Ireland v England (Sat, 5pm)

Ireland are aiming to complete the Grand Slam and as the world’s number one-ranked side they are expected to sweep aside England, who collapsed to a record home defeat to France in round four.

In normal circumstances, all-conquering Ireland would be expected to show their customary ruthlessness and dispatch the underdogs, but with the scene set for one of the great days in their 148-year history, could the pressure get to them?

They are gunning for a fourth Grand Slam but their first to be clinched in Dublin, while the match’s scheduling on St Patrick’s weekend adds to the expectation.

England are an extraordinary 6/1 to upstage the Irish on their big day and with no one giving them a hope, they can take what is being viewed in their camp as a “free swing”. Several of Steve Borthwick’s team are playing for their Test futures, adding to their motivation.

We reckon Ireland will settle for just getting the job done and 2/1 for a home win by 1-10 points completes our 2023 Six Nations betting tips.
