Shutthefrontdoor developing into the gamble of the Grand National….again!

Published:

Shutthefrontdoor, last year’s beaten favourite, is turning into the gamble of this year’s Grand National according to leading British bookmaker, Coral.

Many Clouds, Coral’s 8/1 favourite is, as expected, the best backed horse in the race but not far behind is Shutthefrontdoor, who was 18/1 this morning but has been slashed by Coral to 11/1.

“Shutthefrontdoor was the best backed horse in last year’s race with AP McCoy having his final Grand National ride but punters have come for him again with Barry Geraghty now taking the ride, and he has emerged as the surprise gamble of the race”, said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

The Last Samuri is the third best backed horse in the race but some way behind the top two in Coral’s list published at 1pm. Boston Bob is another horse that is attracting more bets than bookies expected, featuring as the sixth best backed horse in the race with Coral, who have cut him to 22/1 from 28/1.

“We are seeing stellar turnover on the race in shops and online, and with the extra hour of betting this year, we are expecting stakes to soar above £200 million for the first time in Grand National history”, added Clare.
