Shearer says: “Solskjaer will have to tighten things up against Spurs.”

This weekend is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first big test since taking over as Manchester United manager.
Tottenham will be the strongest side they have faced under his tenure so far. They have had five favourable games in a row but nevertheless he has definitely turned things around.
He’s changed the atmosphere around the club, in the team and with the fans and this will be a good chance to see just how far they’ve come.
In all the games that I’ve seen since he has taken over, they have conceded chances but the opposition haven’t punished them.
Newcastle had chances in their last league game and Reading had a host of chances too in the FA Cup at the weekend and should have scored.
If they play like that against the likes of Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen then they will get punished, so Solskjaer will have to try and find a way of tightening things up.
I still don’t believe that they are good enough to get into the top four with their current problems at the back.
Spurs are having a very good season. They’ve bounced back well since their defeat to Wolves and have got themselves in a strong position.
However they have lost five games already in the league and no side has won the title and lost more than six matches.
Realistically then they can’t afford to be beaten if they want to be in the title race and they will need to go on an unbelievable run if they’re to make it happen. I don’t see that happening.
If they could win a trophy and finish in a Champions League position then that would be a good season for them.
They’re in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and in a very strong position going into the 2nd leg. They’re also through in the FA Cup and Champions League, so they’ve still got a great chance of achieving that.
Pochettino has a very exciting project going on at the moment and his future will depend on how things progress.
They’ve improved a lot since he took over, are going well in the league and are moving into a new era in a new stadium. It’s a very exciting time at Tottenham right now.
