Beverley and Lingfield previews: Poets worth a punt, Amlak holds all the aces

Gulf Of Poets has plenty going for him at Beverley
Gulf Of Poets looks decent value to take advantage of a drop in the weights and ease in grade to land the 1m handicap on today’s card at Beverley (16.45).
The Mick Easterby trained gelding notched his sole career success won over course and distance back in April when coming from off the pace to land a class 5 contest by 1/2 a length off a mark of 73.
Gulf Of Poets scored with a bit more in hand than the winning margin suggests and went on to finish a solid fourth in a class 4 contest at Leicester and third in a class 3 at Ripon off 77.
The four-year-old now returns to class 5 company, in which he is 1-1, and is now able to race off a mark just 1lb higher than when last victorious.
It gives the gelding major claims from a handicapping perspective, especially if taking into account the 5lb claim of Nathan Evans.
Frap each-way value
In the other 1m handicap on the card (17.15), Frap looks weighted to go well at a big price.
Richard Fahey’s gelding was last successful in a class 5 contest at Carlisle back in May when coming from well-off the pace to get up close home and score by a head off a mark of 58.
Frap was then far form disgraced when fourth to Popsie’s Joy at Beverley off a revised rating of 62 but has not been at his best in three subsequent outings.
However, the three-year-old has been given a break and now returns to action off a mark of 59.
It gives Frap every chance at the weights if the break has freshened him up now dropped down into class 6 company.

Amlak weighted to deliver under Dettori at Lingfield
Amlak ran a cracker when runner-up last time out and can go one better to open her account in the 5f nursery on today’s card at Lingfield (15.35).
The Richard Hannon trained filly showed plenty of early dash and stuck to the task well to be beaten 3/4 of a length by Well Done at Wolverhampton, with the pair pulling five lengths clear of the field.
Well Done is a well-regarded sort now officially rated 85 and that makes an opening mark of 75 for Amlak look very exploitable.
The selection also remains open to further progress after just four starts and had previously shaped well on more than one occasion, including when not beaten far when fifth in a Listed contest at York.
Amlak also has the services of Frankie Dettori in the saddle and from a good draw in stall one this looks a lovely opportunity for the daughter of Invicible Spirit to get on the scoresheet.
Falcon’s Song ready to call the tune
Trainer Ismail Mohammed has his team in fine form and Falcon’s Song is fancied to provide him with another winner in the 1m handicap (14.30).
The filly shaped with plenty of promise when on debut when runner-up at Chelmsford and showed the benefit of that experience to open her account at the same venue in game style by a short-head.
Falcon’s Song was allotted an opening mark of 75 on the back of that success and ran better than the bare result suggests off it when third to Great Thoughts over 1m 4f at Wolverhampton, leading entering the final furlong before weakening late on to be beaten 6 1/4 lengths.
Judged on that effort the drop back down in trip looks sure to suit, and although Falcon’s Song was not at her best last time out at Kempton she remains lightly-raced and has been eased a further 2lb in the weights to what looks a workable mark of 71.
Another plus is that stable has a strike rate of 40 per cent at the track in the past 12 months and everything looks in place for a huge run.
