Sea Siren steps up in trip for Group 3 at Tipperary
Published:Australian import Sea Siren is top on official ratings in the feature race at Tipperary on Thursday but is stepping up to seven furlongs after being campaigned in the top sprint races. The five-year-old has won over this distance at Group 1 level in Australia so will be difficult to beat if recent races haven’t taken their toll.
Jim Bolger’s Teofilo filly Tobann may have a bit to find on official figures but there was a lot to like about her latest performance. Held up in a large field, she moved sweetly past sixteen rivals to win going away under Rory Cleary.
The runner-up Jamesie is a decent handicapper and Tobann was only receiving 4lbs from him. Fiesolana won three in a row before being well beaten behind subsequent Beverly D Stakes winner Dank at the Curragh.
Fiesolana would have a great chance if able to recapture her earlier form but her Group 3 penalty makes it difficult. One Spirit and Rasmeyaa are both capable of showing improvement on their previous outings.
The meeting begins at 5.00 with an opportunity for the consistent Acting Talent to get her head in front after three placed efforts. Dermot Weld is applying the visor for the first time in an effort to get a little extra out of the daughter of Bernstein.
Aidan O’Brien’s Orchestra came up against a smart colt in Free Eagle on his debut and was beaten six lengths. The winner is already being touted as a Derby horse for next season so it will be disappointing if Orchestra cannot win the maiden at 5.30.
O’Brien will be hoping for a quick double with Friendship in the Nursery at 6.05. He landed the odds with the minimum of fuss at Leopardstown and could defy top weight at the expense of Princess Aloof.
Rockview Emperor can follow up his recent Naas victory in the handicap at 7.10 whilst At Boolavogue can strike again for the in-form Farrell stable in the 7.40. The rather grandly named The United States has not been seen since the Guineas trial in April but can make up for lost time in the closing race at 8.10 and complete a good night for Ballydoyle.
