Scudamore says Yanworth is one of the bankers of the meeting
Published:In the opening race on day two, the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at 1.30pm, I don’t have a ride but I really do like Yanworth. I have been so impressed with this horse and I actually think he is one of the bankers of the meeting. It is going to take a good one to test him. The best bit of form we have seen in this race came on Trials Day where Yanworth was so impressive. We now know that Yorkhill will run as Willie wanted to keep him and Min apart. He is a good horse but looks like he is going to get further so it would be Yanworth for me.
In the RSA Chase at 2.10pm, we have another good clash with More of That and No More Heroes. I fancy More of That to win that battle. Over hurdles he was never that impressive but just kept on winning and improving until he won the World Hurdle. Last year things obviously did not go right for him. This year he looks like he has taken to fences well. He’s an economical jumper and I see no reason why he can’t beat No More Heroes and win the RSA Chase.
At 2.50pm it is the Coral Cup, a race in which I fell in 12 months ago. I don’t always remember a lot of the races I ride, but I do recall this one and it does not bring back too many good memories. It is a tough race. Even those at the bottom of the weights like Baron Alco which are going to be a big price, have a chance and you’ll get a run for your money from.
In is the Champion Chase at 3.30pm it is Un De Sceaux’s to lose. If Sire De Grugy and Sprinter Sacre were at the top of their game, they’d beat him though. Un De Sceaux doesn’t quite have the invincibility for me that some of Willie’s other runners have had. He’s won over fences but I’ve never thought he has been an aeroplane or superstar. He may prove me wrong. He is beatable but I don’t see what beats him in this year’s Champion Chase. If there was to be one of the bigger price runners which could shake things up, I think it could be Special Tiara. He’ll serve it up to Un De Sceaux but by an elimination process, I think Un De Sceaux will win.
I’ve had a couple of rides in the Cross Country Chase which is at 4.10pm, I’ve never found it much fun though. Maybe because I have never had a good enough mounts. I don’t ride for Enda Bolger and that it what it comes down to. I could have ridden Third Intention and I am sure if it chasing up the hill in front, I will be regretting that decision. I wish Tom O’Brien the best of luck though. You can’t go far wrong than look at the Bolger runners in this as a potential winner.
In the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at 4.50pm, I ride Harley Rebel for Neil Mullholland. He won at Sandown on Saturday which is the reason he gets into the race. He’s got plenty of experience which is exactly what you need in a race like this. He’s around 16/1 which is a fair reflection of his chances.
Finally, the Champion Bumper at 5.30pm, I’m on Jot ‘Em Down who won nicely at Plumpton but this is a big step for him. He’s a horse for the future but in this grade he may struggle. He’ll certainly be staying on when others are crying enough, it’s whether he has enough pace. I like Nigel Twiston-Davies’ runner in the race, Ballyandy. He’s probably got the best bumper form this season. There is no real stand out though. You only have to look at the horses which have come out of last year’s race to see how good the 2015 running was and I am sure this time next year we will be saying the same thing.
