Scudamore says: “Flying Tiger is a good ride to pick up”

Top jockey speaks to Coral

I’m driving half way up to Newcastle tonight and then travelling the rest of the way in the morning.

It’s a good track to ride, although of course I’d say that as I’ve had a lot of luck around there.

I’ve won a couple of Eiders and have a good strike rate there so it’s a track that’s been very kind to me. It’s a flat, galloping track, a very fair track.

11.55 Newcastle – Look My Way

I’ve ridden a few horses for John Quinn over the years, probably around ten in total, and had a couple of great spins around Aintree, but I’ve yet to win for him.

This was a 90 rated horse on the flat and handled very soft ground around Ffos Las for Andrew Balding, so he looks a nice type.

It’s all systems go, I’m sure he’ll be ready and will know his job, and John has done particularly well with his juvenile hurdlers, so I’m hopeful of a good run.

1.40 Newcastle – Solomn Grundy

He was a good hurdler last year but his form has been a bit disappointing so far this season. His first run was a poor one and he didn’t jump great around Carlisle last time, but hopefully we can put that right tomorrow.

However he’s showing signs at home that he’s coming back to himself. It’s a small runner field and based on his hurdle form you’d have to give him a chance.

He has to now show us on the track what he’s been showing us at home.

 2.10 Newcastle – Flying Tiger

This is a good ride to pick up. He’s a Cheltenham Festival winner but he’s got a lot to do against Buveur D’Air.

The conditions are going to be really testing which can have a big bearing on races like this.

However I spoke to Noel Fehily earlier and he thinks that the softer the ground the better for Buveur D’Air, so if he’s right then he’ll be very difficult to beat but we’ll give it a go.

2.45 Newcastle – Hooligan Jack

Hooligan Jack is unraced so I don’t know anything about him.

His trainer Iain Jardine has done fantastically well in a short space of time and is a good man to ride for.
