Scott Minto’s weekend predictions: Chelsea v Liverpool, Watford v Man Utd and more

Published:

Sky Sports presenter Scott Minto has lots to say about this weekend’s televised football fixture.

Coral caught up exclusively with him to discuss all the big TV battles, starting with the Friday Night Football offering of Chelsea v Liverpool.

Scott, who anchors the live Championship coverage on Sky Sports, also gives predictions for Cardiff City v Leeds United and Birmingham City v Sheffield Wednesday before returning to the rest of the Premier League action.

Everton v Middlesbrough and three Sunday games; Watford v Man Utd, Crystal Palace v Stoke City and Tottenham v Sunderland completes his weekend round-up.

We’ve summarised his thoughts below each video, but play them all to get the full story from Minto!

Chelsea v Liverpool prediction

Scott believes John Terry is still a better defender than returning Chelsea signing David Luiz, and thinks Liverpool may try and get at the Blues backline early on in order to gain an upper hand on their travels.

Although, with Diego Costa being in fine form and Chelsea having earned plenty of points from late goals already this term, Scott is predicting a sharing of the spoils at Stamford Bridge.

Goals galore fivefold

With a host of promising fixtures taking place across the weekend, Scott has picked out his five games which he thinks both teams will score in.

Starting off with the Friday tussle between Chelsea and Liverpool, Scott also sees plenty of strikes occurring in the Championship clash of Nottingham Forest v Norwich City, so have a watch to find out who else he’s selected.

Weekend treble

Scott’s weekend treble predictions come from two games in League One and another in the Championship, with Barnsley featuring among his three selections.

The Tykes have been scoring for fun of late and they are a top pick to get the better of Reading in this weekend’s second tier match-up.

Cardiff City v Leeds United prediction

Scott believes both Cardiff City and Leeds United have endured tough starts to their campaigns but thinks their respective managers, Paul Trollope and Garry Monk, will need backing by the clubs’ hierarchy this term.

With such underwhelming form for both sides coming into this match-up, a draw could well be on the cards on Welsh soil according to Scott.

Everton v Middlesbrough prediction

Listen to what Scott thinks about Everton under Ronald Koeman, after an impressive performance from Romelu Lukaku last time out when hitting a hat-trick.

He is predicting a comfortable Toffees victory and believes Ronald Koeman has the squad capable of causing a few upsets this campaign.

Birmingham City v Sheffield Wednesday prediction

Into the Championship and Scott looks at the encounter between Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday, but who is he backing in this tasty tussle?

Wednesday have kept plenty of clean sheets in recent weeks and they are being touted to keep a close defensive unit once again in this meeting against Birmingham on the road.

Watford v Manchester United prediction

Manchester United will look to bounce back from their derby defeat and Scott thinks they can show the character of potential champions to come strongly against Watford and earn three points.

He believes Jose Mourinho will have his side well prepared and ready to outpower the Hornets at Vicarage Road.

Crystal Palace v Stoke City prediction

Scott gives his prediction for Crystal Palace v Stoke City, with the Eagles having finally looked like overturning their recent poor run of form last time out.

Alan Pardew’s men are being backed to overcome a lacklustre Potters side this weekend, with Christian Benteke having got off the mark recently and adding to the club’s reasons for optimism.

Tottenham v Sunderland prediction

Scott believes the new long-term contracts handed to Christian Eriksen and Eric Dier will be a huge boost for Tottenham ahead of their encounter with Sunderland.

David Moyes recently claimed his Black Cats will be in and around the relegation zone this season, and Scott thinks Spurs will further help that prediction come to fruition by netting three or four goals this weekend.
