The Queen’s Vase winner is the favourite for Saturday’s race

Santiago is the slight favourite to win the Irish Derby this weekend.

The Curragh Classic takes place on Saturday and the recent Queen’s Vase winner currently heads the betting at 3/1.

Santiago’s Ballydoyle stablemate Arthur’s Kingdom is slightly behind at 9/2 following the final declarations for the race.

“In a normal year the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby would follow the Investec Derby and isn’t always the most competitive Classic,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“But in this unusual season where it’s a week ahead of Epsom, we have 15 runners lining up and a wide open betting heat to look forward to.”

The Northumberland Plate also takes place this weekend, with Australis and Smart Champion the joint market leaders at 6/1.
