Sandown and Yarmouth previews: Bryght Boy ready to shine

Bryght Boy to open account at Sandown
Bryght Boy caught the eye last time out and looks weighted to open his account in the 7f handicap on this evening’s card at Sandown (18.35).
The Ed Walker trained gelding shaped with plenty of promise on his first two starts this season when when tenderly handled in maidens at Doncaster before putting in a much improved effort on handicap debut at Lingfield when third of 10 to Packing.
After being held-up in a slowly run affair by Antonio Fresu, Bryght Boy had to be switched right a furlong from home before finishing with a rattle to be beaten just 1 1/2 lengths.
It was a fine effort given how the race panned out and one which suggested the three-year-old was ahead of his current mark of 63.
Bryght Boy also didn’t get much assistance from the saddle and the booking of Luke Morris to to the steering on this occasion looks a big plus.
The son of Paco Boy should also appreciate the stiff uphill finish given how he finished off the race, and this looks a nice opening for him to notch a first career success.
Sir Roderic can defy rise in the weights
In the 1m handicap (19.40), the thriving Sir Roderic can defy a rise in the weights to bag a fifth success of the season.
The Rod Millman trained gelding is on a serious upward curve and comes into the contest on the back of an impressive success over 7f at the venue earlier in the month.
Sir Roderic travelled strongly throughout before taking up the running inside the last and beat Silk Cravat by 1 1/2 lengths.
The three-year-old pricked his ears and idled once hitting the front and was value for far more than the winning margin.
Although now 6lb higher in the weights, Sir Roderic only does enough to get the job done and could well have even more to offer.

Niceofyoutotellme the answer to feature contest at Yarmouth
Niceofyoutotellme can take advantage of a drop in the weights to score an overdue success in the 1m 2f handicap on this evening’s card at Yarmouth (18.45).
The Ralph Beckett trained seven-year-old has not scored since landing a competitive handicap at Newmarket back in May 2014, but has run some really solid races in defeat in better companny.
They include a 3/4 length third to Western Hymn in the 2015 running of the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown and a 2 3/4 length eighth of 13 to Mahsoob in last year’s Wolferon handicap at Royal Ascot off a mark of 108.
Those races represent extremely strong from in the contest of this class 2 contest and Niceofyoutotellme is able to race in it off a reduced rating of 100.
That gives the gelding major claims from a handicapping perspective, and Niceofyoutotellme now drops back into handicap company having been far from disgraced last time out when fifth to Time Test in a Group 3 at Sandown.
Patanjali makes plenty of appeal
Patanjali hinted that his time was near when third last time out and can a secure a first career success in the 1m 1f handicap (18.15).
The Eve Johnson Houghton trained three-year-old had caught the eye on more than one occasion prior to powering home to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths at Brighton eight days ago.
Patanjali was gaining hand over fist at the finish having been given plenty to do and forced to race out wide, leaving the impression that he would have won given different tactics.
The gelding is able to race in this off an unchanged mark and connections are also now fitting him with a hood for the first time.
If the new headgear has the desired effect, Patanjali looks weighted to take all the beating in what is a weak class 6 contest lacking any real strength in depth.
