City to bounce back against Saints

After suffering a stunning 4-1 defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool last time out, Manchester City will look to return to form on home soil and it’s Ronald Koeman’s travelling Southampton that could face the full force of a Premier League backlash.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Sky Blues are the 7/4 favourites with Coral to earn a victory to nil at the Etihad, and they will undoubtedly be ready to recover from their Reds disappointment in fine fashion against a Saints side they have toppled in their last five home meetings.

Hosts hold rampant ranks

With such a dominant record over the south coast club on their home patch, City will be confident of banishing that hapless loss to Liverpool, but Southampton are 11/2 to further their domestic misery by gaining three points on their visit to Manchester.

Astute Argentine attacker Sergio Aguero was on target in this fixture at the Etihad last term, rounding off a comfortable 2-0 triumph with the game’s last goal, and he is 3/1 to do so again this time out, or the same odds to open proceedings.

Towering Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure has got on the scoresheet against Southampton for the past two campaigns and, after a rejuvenating season so far, he is 2/1 to net anytime again, while Raheem Sterling is 5/1 to score first.

Saints a threat to Sky Blues

The visitors won’t lie down easily though, with Koeman possessing plenty of dangerous forward talent in his ranks too, including in-form wing wizard Sadio Mane. This tricky goal threat has been in incredible form in recent weeks, and has been linked heavily to City’s bitter rivals Manchester United, but he is 9/4 for another goal anytime in his latest outing.

Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland marksman Shane Long recently returned from a troublesome injury and will be looking to fire his side to victory on their travels, making the Tipperary-born poacher 9/1 for a trademark last goal of the game.

Crystal Palace v Newcastle United

Palace’s Pardew hosts former club

Newcastle United make the trip south to Selhurst Park for an encounter with a familiar face in Alan Pardew, as the former Toon boss sets his Crystal Palace side up for a crucial clash in which the hosts will be searching for their first fixture win since 1998.

Incredibly, Palace have also not been able to topple the Magpies in a domestic league match-up on home soil since 1984, but they are 21/10 to secure three points this time out, while Newcastle are 4/1 for a much-needed victory on the road.

Steve McClaren’s Toon sit dangerously in 17th position, just a single point adrift of the relegation zone, so victory in London is a must during the weekend’s Premier League action, while Palace sit in a more encouraging 10th place, just two points away from a European spot.

Torrid Toon seek revival on road

Newcastle have been on a torrid run of form so far this term, but it’s their poor away run that is hurting them most, with just a single victory on the road so far, which came against Bournemouth recently. Although, they will take hope from Palace’s underwhelming home streak, with the Eagles having now gone three consecutive league clashes at Selhurst Park without picking up three points.

Reliable midfield maestro Yohan Cabaye is 2/1 to dispatch another goal anytime for the hosts against his former employers, after reuniting with Pardew in London, while fellow playmaker Georginio Wijnaldum is 11/4 to strike for the Toon in this vital top-flight meeting.
