Coral’s rumour reel
Euro 2016 came to a close on Sunday night, as Portugal edged out host nation France to lift their first-ever major international trophy with a 1-0 victory in extra-time.
With the summer’s showcase football event now over, it’s all about transfer business for Premier League clubs and those around Europe, with many players that featured on French soil having boosted their reputations, and possibly price-tags.
Carvalho chased by top tier trio
One star of the history-making Portugal side to have played himself into the shop window is William Carvalho, with the Sporting Lisbon anchorman having enjoyed strong showings this summer, as a trio of Premier League clubs now reportedly chase his signature.
The 24-year-old midfielder is being tracked heavily by top-flight champions Leicester City, as well as Merseyside outfit Everton and south coast club Southampton, with the Portugal ace supposedly being available at around £20m following the finale of Euro 2016.
Carvalho was impressive throughout Portugal’s successful international campaign, including in the final against Les Bleus, and Claudio Ranieri is keen to acquire him this year, potentially as a replacement for the player’s recent French opposition N’Golo Kante.
Meanwhile, new Toffees boss Ronald Koeman wants the starlet at Goodison Park to rejuvenate his inherited ranks, with the Dutchman also trying to sort a deal for Zenit St Petersburg’s Axel Witsel this summer.
Koeman’s former side Southampton are hoping to land Carvalho too, but face stiff competition from their top-flight rivals, as this three-way tussle rages on.
Chelsea could land Anderson
Antonio Conte will soon take up his new role as Chelsea manager after leading Italy to the quarter-finals in France, and he is reportedly keen on bringing Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson to Stamford Bridge.
The Brazil-capped playmaker has long been linked with a switch to Manchester United, but it seems the Blues are now leading the chase for Anderson’s acquisition, with the Eagles having relaxed their previously solid stance on letting him depart.
Anderson recently chose to change his agent in the past few weeks, which could have an impact on his thinking towards a move to London, and Chelsea reportedly have close ties with his new representative Giuliano Bertolucci.
The 23-year-old did endure somewhat of an underwhelming previous season, registering just seven goals and four assists in 35 Serie A outings, failing to build on his earlier impressive 2014/15 term. Though that hasn’t derailed Chelsea’s interest, as Conte closes in on his target this month.
Negredo latest to arrive at Boro?
Having already acquired World Cup winning goalkeeper Victor Valdes and former Ajax wonderkid Viktor Fischer on permanent deals, among others, Middlesbrough have assembled a solid-looking squad ahead of their Premier League return.
But Boro aren’t stopping there, with former Manchester City and current Valencia frontman Alvaro Negredo now in their sights, as Aitor Karanka targets the Spaniard on loan for the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.
Negredo turned down two offers from China earlier in the summer and is believed to be willing to return to England, where he helped the Sky Blues win the title and League Cup in 2014, and work under fellow ex-Real Madrid man Karanka.
